Help! I don't know what to do next!

OpenStudy (stefrheart):

yes?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-5(3-q) +4 = 5q-11

OpenStudy (stefrheart):

you need to distribute the -5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay so it would be -15 - 5q + 4 = 5q -11?

OpenStudy (stefrheart):

yes! :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay! so would i add the 15 to both sides now?

OpenStudy (stefrheart):

well i would combine the -15 and the 4 first

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ohh okay

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so you would just add those together?

OpenStudy (stefrheart):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay so -5q + (-11) =5q -11?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think

OpenStudy (stefrheart):

wait we made a mistake when it was -5*-q it should be 5q not -5q

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh right i just saw the subtraction sign and thought of it as a -

OpenStudy (stefrheart):

its okay but this would be all real numbers as the answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay

OpenStudy (stefrheart):

Do you understand why?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh yeah because it's 5q - 11 = 5q- 11 so the answer just goes on. Would it work if I said infinity answers?

OpenStudy (stefrheart):

Yes but the most logical mathematical answer you can do is all real numbers its more mathematical than infinity answers

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay! Thank you so much for helping me!

OpenStudy (stefrheart):

Welcome! Glad to have helped! :)
