A supermarket charges $1.17 for a 12-oz jar of salsa and $1.89 for a 20-oz jar. Now the producer is introducing a 16-oz jar of the same salsa. What do you think would be a fair price for this new size?

OpenStudy (imstuck):

as long as the function is linear, you can use ratios to solve what the 16-oz jar would cost. Let's see if it's linear by graphing the points. x axis will be the number of ounces and y axis will be the cost of the jar.

I did that I think it's 1.56 cents right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Except I keep getting 1.55.

1.56 .

OpenStudy (imstuck):

I don't think the function is linear, so that's a problem. What I did was find the average cost of one ounce of salsa. This was .096 cents per ounce. I multiplied that by 16 ounces and got 1.54
