3x+2y=1 and 2x+y=5

where the question?

OpenStudy (anas.p):

3x+2y=1 rearrange the equation to get \[y=(1-3x)/2\] Now put this value of y in the second equation. Can you do it?

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

2x + y = 5 y = -2x + 5 now sub -2x + 5 in for y in the other equation 3x + 2y = 1 3x + 2(-2x + 5) = 1 now just distribute and solve for x. Once you find x, sub that back into either equation to find y

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Substitution: Take the value of any one variable( x or y ) and put it in other equation. y = 2x + 5 Put this in the other equation, ie, ==>3x -10 = 2y ==> 3x -10 =4x + 10 ==> -x = 20 ==>x = -20 ==> y = 2x + 5 = -40 +5 = -35
