OpenStudy (pottersheep):

Only being able to award one medal per thread is discouraging? I think it was different before, wasn't it? We used to be able to give multiple medals per thread. I feel like now that we can only award one, it discourages teamwork. If someone notices someone else has answered a question, they don't bother to expand on it anymore. That's just what I think though. What do you think?

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

It would be helpful to give all the people who helped you a medal. It should be formatted that the person should be able to give as many people who he thinks helped him or the person asking the question a medal. The person should not be able to give one specific person more than 1 medal though.

OpenStudy (pottersheep):

I was considering something similar to that as well. Earning medals is what motivates people to help. And when you risk not getting a medal after all the time you spent, well, that's discouraging. I do think it is a good idea that people can award medals even if it's not their own question. To prevent people going around giving out infinite medals to everyone, then you're right, maybe the person asking the question can give medals to as many people they want to show appreciation for, and others can award the answer they believe is the "best"

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

People can also give medals to each other. There needs to be some sort of limit to prevent medal parties and useless answers that get rewarded. So where do you draw a line? 2, 3, 5, 9? They did a lot of looking at it and decided one.

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

The maximum amout of people that can help one person is around 3....

OpenStudy (pottersheep):

What if you can only give out medals if you're a certain level or higher, to indicate that you are a serious user?

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

^^^^

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Then it is hard for lower SS people to thank others and therefore harder for them to gain SS. A lot has gone into developing the scoring system.

OpenStudy (pottersheep):

True, but the current system also fails to thank all those who deserve it

sammixboo (sammixboo):

I like it the way it is. v(*-*)v

sammixboo (sammixboo):

Because people could just see what someone else put before them then say it is A also, and that could be wrong and all

OpenStudy (gorv):

well when we give medal we click on BEST RESPONSE ....so we gave medal to person who responded correctly and precisely and the best one....medal cant be given to everyone who type up in the post .....so it should be given to thet best one

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

The original developers toyed with a lot of things, like doing gold, silver, and bronze medals. They never found something else that worked well.

sammixboo (sammixboo):

I guess the gold, silver, and bronze medals is a good idea.

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

A few potential problems came up, like friends always giving gold to their cronies so sort of a covert medal party and lazy people giving bronze to everything or gold until they were out, then silver until that ran out, then bronze for everything else.

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

How about just three medals per question (gold, silver, bronze) and the person asking it can only give the three. Everyone else can give one. And he can only give one medal per person to a maximum of three people.

OpenStudy (pottersheep):

I do see the the cons of being able to award more than one medal, but it comes down to whether it's worth having hard-working people to being unappreciated (as another answer may have been chosen as the "best") in order to prevent people receiving undeserved medals. There were times before when I would ask a math question I was very stumped on, and more than one person would guide me through beautifully. I feel bad if I could only give one of them a medal. Anyways, as for people receiving undeserved medals, theoretically couldn't someone just make a second account, and award themselves medals for multiple questions? I just think the system right now is frustrating

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

I have made a suggestion for a way to help flag things that are really good replies. However, that will take development time. At the moment, stability is their main thing.

OpenStudy (pottersheep):

Okay, hopefully OpenStudy will come up with some sort of compromise :)

I just wanted to share my thoughts
