someone explain to me how -1/2 + (-1/4) = -3/4

Find the common denominator, which would be 4. \[-\frac{ 1 }{ 2 } + (- \frac{ 1 }{ 4 } )\] Once you do you would get -2/4 + -1/4 Simply add the numerators together, and take care of your sign!
