Find the equation of the line that passes through (-2,-1) that is parallel to 2x-3y=9.

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

if you solve say " 2x-3y=9." for "y" what would it look like?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh. I would have to plug in the (-2, -1) right?

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

well... nope.... not quite.... is simpler if you solve " 2x-3y=9." for "y" firstly

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Would I have to subtract the 2x and put it with the 9? 3y=-2x+9 Actually. I'm not sure. :[

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

yeap

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Then from there do I plug it in? Or, is there another step that I'm missing?

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

well... you need to isolate the "y" so subtract 2x and then divide by -3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is this what you meant? y=-2x+9/3

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

hmmm you may want to brush up your section on linear simplification first I'd think

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay. I'll go do that. Thanks for the help though. :]
