Please help! Marco and Drew stacked boxes on a shelf. Marco lifted 9 boxes and Drew lifted 14 boxes. The boxes that Drew lifted each weighed 8 lb less than the boxes Marco lifted. Which expression represents the total number of pounds Drew lifted? Let m represent the weight of the boxes that Marco lifted. A. m − 8 B. 14(m − 8) C. 9(m + 8) D. 112m

OpenStudy (amistre64):

what are your thoughts about it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Honestly I have no clue how to do it, I've worked on it for hours but I can't understand it.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

if youve worked on it for hours, then you must have had some thoughts that you attempted.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well I know it isn't D because it just shows an answer and I'm looking for a problem...

OpenStudy (amistre64):

D is wrong, but for other reasons ... if each box weighs a certain amount (k), and we lift a certain number of them (n) then the total weight lifted is k+k+k+...+k, the sum of k, n times is just n times k we didint lift 112 boces, nor did they weigh the same as the other guys

OpenStudy (amistre64):

how many boxes did D lift?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

14

OpenStudy (amistre64):

then we want 14 times some weight, the weight of a box is more or less then Ms?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

8 pounds less

OpenStudy (amistre64):

then would you agree with 14(m-8) ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes I would.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

and so would i :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, thank you very much!

OpenStudy (amistre64):

good luck
