I need help with this, I'm not sure I'm doing it right. It's calc/physics

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I plugged in 2 for t and got -21 is that right?

myininaya (myininaya):

well is 2^3-3(2)^2-9(2)+1 equal -21?

myininaya (myininaya):

you would have to follow of operations to verify

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ya it's -21, but am i allowed to have a negative position?

myininaya (myininaya):

exponents first 2^3=8 2^2=4 8-3(4)-9(2)+1 now take care of the multiplication I will let you do that and tell me what you get

myininaya (myininaya):

Doesn't that just mean the particle is to the left of its starting point

myininaya (myininaya):

or I guess it could mean down from the starting point

myininaya (myininaya):

neg means it is in the left direction or down direction pos means it is in the right direction or up direction

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so it's like going backwards and it's 21 meters behind where it started?

myininaya (myininaya):

yeah the particle went to the left 21 units after 2 seconds (or whatever the time units are)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

alrighty thankss

myininaya (myininaya):

|dw:1412724533241:dw| and the left direction is shown by that decreasing motion on this graph from 0 to 2
