OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

1) expand the left side 2) add "a" to both sides 3) add 6 to both sides 4) divide both sides by 4. tell me what you get.

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

(couldn't post it before, sorry)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do I add six to 1/3 or the problem in the parenthesis

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

you multiply everything in the parenthesis on the right side times 1/3 9a times 1/3 would be 3a and -18 times 1/3 would be -6. So after preforming the 1st step, you get 6-a=3a-6 then step 2, to add a to both sides 6-a=3a-6 6-a+a=3a-6+a ("a"s on the left side cancel) you get, 6=4a - 6 (right ?) Then step 3, to add 6 to both sides 6=4a - 6 6+6=4a - 6+6 (6 s cancel on the right, and you get...) 12=4a step 4 divide both sides by 4, Can you tell me what a equals? And, how many solutions can there be?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

12/4 is 3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a=3

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

yes

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

number of solution is?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Theres only one solution

OpenStudy (anonymous):

correct?

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

Yup, that's right !
