A 100x10^-6 Ci source emits beta rays each of energy 2.8 MeV, enclosed in hand for 5 minutes. a) what equivalent does of radiation (in Sv) would you absorb, assuming your hand weighs 0.25kg and has area 100 cm^2, absorbing all incident energy? I got 5.68x10^13 Sv but this seems way too high b) Repeat assuming hand is 1m away from radioactive source. (not sure about this)

Yes way too high. Did you use the correct conversion from MeV to joules? 1 MeV = 1.602 E-13 Joules Also did you use 1 Ci = 3.7 E10 dinsint/sec
