OpenStudy (anonymous):

x/3+1=-4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

subtract 1 from both sides x/3=5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then multiply both sides by 3.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3(x/3)=5*3 which the 3s on x cancel out so x=15

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is it -5 or 5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its wrong when u out the answer in the expression

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

x/3 + 1 = -4 --- subtract 1 from both sides x/3 = -4 - 1 x/3 = -5 -- multiply both sides by 3 x = -5(3) x = -15 or x/3 + 1 = -4 --- to get rid of fractions in an equation, multiply by the common denominaror, which is 3 (3)(x/3) + (3)1 = (3) -4 x + 3 = -12 -- subtract 3 from both sides x = -12 - 3 x = -15 you can do it either way

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh so sorry i thought it was positive 4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so still subtract 1 from both sides so

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x/3=-3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then multiply both sides by three to remove the 3 in the denominator on the right so x=-9

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

dangit i did it again

OpenStudy (anonymous):

...lololol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x/3=-5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its ok thx for your help I got it now

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x=-15

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah lol :(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

glad you got it tho :)
