if 32 is the speed for chuck then dana goes 27 (5 less than chuck) using speed * time= distance time = distance/speed chuck took 117/32 dana took 102/27 the time's are supposed to be equal? Are they?

OpenStudy (phi):

if we say "x" is how fast chuck went then the time he went (using time = distance/speed) is time= 117/x if chuck goes x, dana goes x-5 (5 mph slower, right?) dana's time = 102/(x-5) they spent the same amount of time so set the times equal \[ \frac{117}{x} = \frac{102}{(x-5)} \] to solve for "x" (speed of chuck) you could first "cross-multiply"

46 seems to be the closest
