A man is doing pull-ups weighs 771.5 newtons and has a mass of 101.8. What is the force he must pull up with to accelerate at 1.3 m/s2?

OpenStudy (ipwnbunnies):

We'll use the famous equation: \[F = ma\]

OpenStudy (ipwnbunnies):

Which is technically \[\Sigma F = ma\], the sum of forces equals mass times acceleration

OpenStudy (ipwnbunnies):

So, some force minus the man's weight must equal the right hand side, mass times acceleration. It can be modeled like this: \[x - 771.5 = (101.8)(1.3)\] Solve for x. That's the force the man needs to apply to accelerate at 1.3 m/s^2
