Look at the main formula PV = nRT. Now in real life, as the balloon rises the temperature is going to change, but we're assuming it remains constant. R is the gas constant , and n, the number of moles of gas is constant. So the whole right side is a constant, which we really don't know the value of, but we really don't care, either. \[P _{i}V _{i}=k \] and\[P _{f}V _{f}=k\] The value of k is the same in both equations.
