Consider the function f(x) = x^4 - 32 x^2 + 3, \quad
-3
equal to what?
oh. thats the question
Consider the function f(x) = x^4 - 32 x^2 + 3, \quad -3 (less than or equal to) x (less than or equal to) 9. This function has an absolute minimum value equal to and an absolute maximum value equal to
the answer is solved by taking the derivative and setting it equal to 0
its just asking for the maximum value and minimum value
oh
my bad read that wrong camper is right
partially right, the first derivative equal to 0 gives you the critical points!
if you want to know which one is the minimum and which one is the maximum you will also have to do the SECOND derivative
just take the derivative and set it equal to zero, but you also have to test with the second derivative to see which is the max and which is the min
I tried and it wont work
don't forget that there are probably multiple points that will give you zero but we only want the ones between -3 and 9
so tell me the derivative of f(x)
