why is the graph of static and kinetic friction slant upwards and then levels out
Can you post the graph?
the frictional force on an object arises because of its tendency to move with respect to the surface on wich it is kept.when a force is applied to move an object, the frictional force opposes its motion....their is a limit to the frictional force which can act on an object depending on the type of interaction between the surfaces in contact.as the force applied gradually increases, the frictional force also increases.when the applied force reaches the max frictional force then on increasing the force their is no increase in frictional force as it has reached its maximum limit. Therefore,on increasing the force further on the object, the frictional force remains constant at its maximum value and it does not increase. This explains why the slope increases gradually to a point and then the line becomes horizontal.
