help me? ill medal and fan if i havent fanned you already.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okayyyy this is quite simple if you know your stuff. Let me explain.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[26y =45x\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

45x-5* sorry

OpenStudy (leader):

45x-5+16x+2=180 61x-3=180

OpenStudy (leader):

61x=183 x=3

OpenStudy (leader):

45x-5=26y 45(3)-5=26y 135-5=26y 130=26y y=5

OpenStudy (leader):

So x=3 and y=5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

However! We also know that \[(45x-5)+(16x+2)=180\] This is because they are supplementary angles and supplementary angles are equal to 180 when added together. Follow?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Guess not. Well it was worth a try.

OpenStudy (leader):

That is correct...

@MeghanLil

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes. sorry i had to switch the loads of laundry.

OpenStudy (leader):

no prob

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the answer is x=3,y=5 i.e first solve for 45x-5+16x+2=180 and then solve for 16x+2+26y=180 thereby substituting x=3 which you got from the first equation for x which will gve y=5
