Find Molecular Formula of Hydrocarbon from combustion? So I am given 100CM3 of a hydrocarbon CxHy which is burned in excess oxygen, producing 400CM3 of CO2 and 500CM3 of steam(H2O). They ask me of the molecular formula, how do I begin to solve this?

it also says that the volumes are measured under same conditions

@thomaster please help?

find the moles by using stoichiometry. of course, did u write down the equation. then it will look much clear.

CxHy + O2 -> CO2 + H2O
