Can someone help me figure this out?

OpenStudy (blurbendy):

what's your question?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (blurbendy):

first of all, do you know the rules for 45, 45 and 60,30 degree triangles?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes I do, I just don't fully understand how to work out the problem. I guessed that x=15

OpenStudy (blurbendy):

yes, x = 15 So, what does that mean for the purple triangle?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Uhm... I have no clue...

OpenStudy (blurbendy):

I'll give you a hint 15^2 + 15^2 = h^2

OpenStudy (blurbendy):

Can you solve for h?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

125?

OpenStudy (blurbendy):

15^2 = 225 15^2 + 15^2 = 450 450 = h^2 h = 15squareroot(2) do you follow?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OHHHHHH I GET IT yes yes I do.

OpenStudy (blurbendy):

okay, so can you figure out what y is?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

y=h right?

OpenStudy (blurbendy):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

y=the squareroot of 15?

OpenStudy (blurbendy):

Not quite. the side opposite the 30 degree angle in the green triangle is xsqrt(3) and we know it's equal to 15 xsqrt(3) = 15 x = 5squareroot(3) 1/2h = 5sqrt(3) h = ????

OpenStudy (blurbendy):

Do you understand how we got to this point?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, thank you for helping me (: I got the answer checked by my teacher and she said 100%

OpenStudy (anonymous):

of the answers were correct

OpenStudy (blurbendy):

awesome.
