undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

Orange War took it away.

Nnesha (nnesha):

i can't see the question bec of ????????????????????????????????????/

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

Derive the equation of the parabola with a focus at (2, -1) and a directrix of y = -1/2.

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

Hewo?

Nnesha (nnesha):

i'm sorry i don't know i'm still learning 2+2 5+5 33=33

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

Derive the equation of the parabola with a focus at (2, −1) and a directrix of y = −one half. f(x) = −(x + 2)2 -3/4 f(x) = (x + 2)2 + 3/4 f(x) = −(x - 2)2 + 3/4 f(x) = −(x - 2)2 - 3/4 If this helps you any better :) Also i believe this is A but not sure D:

OpenStudy (freckles):

I like to do it the long way: The distance from (x,y) to (2,-1) is suppose to be the same distance as (x,y) is to (x,-1/2) That is, the distance from a point on the parabola to the focus is the same as the distance from that same point on the parabola to the directrix

OpenStudy (freckles):

So I would find both distances then equate them

OpenStudy (freckles):

then square both sides then there might be just a little math left

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

umm How do you do that? Im just learning this and they really didnt teach me much @freckles

OpenStudy (freckles):

do you know how to find the distance between two points?
