Question dealing with the shorthand notation of Galvanic Cells, have *no clue* what is being talked about here, more information below momentarily.

OpenStudy (mendicant_bias):

\[\sf Fe(s)+Cu(NO_{3})_{2}(aq) \rightarrow Fe(NO_{3})_{2}(aq)+Cu(s)\]

OpenStudy (mendicant_bias):

What is the shorthand notation that represents the following Galvanic Cell reaction?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A displacement reaction.

OpenStudy (mendicant_bias):

I don't know what that means, heh. Looking up that term now.

OpenStudy (mendicant_bias):

I have no idea what that means in this context> The answer key reads as such, where the bolded answer is the correct one. http://i.imgur.com/uANyTX3.png

OpenStudy (mendicant_bias):

But yeah, how did they determine that shorthand, is that convention or something, or?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It is becauseFe removes NO3 from Cu and this Cu by itself becomes an atom.

OpenStudy (mendicant_bias):

That doesn't really tell me anything about the notation, but thank you.
