radical 11x+3-2x=0

sqrt(11x+3) -2x =0 first get the square root alone on one side sqrt(11x+3) = 2x now square each side to get rid of the sqrt 11x + 3 = 4x^2 now move everything to one side 4x^2 - 11x - 3 = 0 now factor it (x-3)(4x+1) = 0 so x = 3, x = -1/4 OR factor the polynomial using the quadratic formula x = [11 +/- sqrt( 121 + 48)]/8 x = [11 +/- 13]/8 x = 3, x = -1/4 so x = -1/4, x = 3 check both answers, they DO both work because for x= -1/4, the sqrt(1/4) is +/- 1/2 and the -1/2 + 1/2 = 0
