A large cylindrical tank of water of radius 12.0 m is filled to a depth of 3.00 m. A spigot on the tank is a 3.00 cm inner diameter pipe that is located 20.0 cm above the bottom of the tank. If the spigot is opened, what is the speed of the water leaving the spigot? A 7.41 m/s B 5.24 m/s C 3.68 m/s D 27.5 m/s E 54.9 m/s And please write down the working out

okay

OpenStudy (dan815):

draw a pic

|dw:1417784464116:dw| That's the best I could do xD

OpenStudy (dan815):

lol

OpenStudy (dan815):

okay so

OpenStudy (dan815):

theres a couple forces to think about here

OpenStudy (dan815):

umm im assuming the tank top is closed so no ATM pressure there to think about

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yup

OpenStudy (dan815):

there is atm pressure at the nozzle to worry about

OpenStudy (dan815):

and then the force due to the depth of the water

OpenStudy (dan815):

the force the water is leaving the tank is going to be the force on the bottom due to the height of the water - the force of the atm at the nozzle which is P_atm * crosssectional area of that pipe

OpenStudy (dan815):

spigot*
