Two identical springs are dangling from the ceiling. The first spring is pushed upward with a force of magnitude 188 N, compressing the spring by 21.8 cm. A box of weight 38 N is attached to the end of the second spring. What distance is the second spring stretched?

Use the formula K=F/x, since they are identical, means they share the same spring contant, so find it for the fisrt spring K=188/0.218=862.4 As for the second one, you have K and F. Then x=F/K=38/862.4=0.044metres or 4.4cm.
