What is the main reason that the water moves?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what do you mean like why the water moves straight up asking like that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well I am learning about surface ocean currents and and the global ocean conveyor and I was The questions asks how water mainly moves and I was just confused. Does that make sense?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

some of the other questions were like what is salinity, and what two main factors contribute to global movement of oceans waters

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well i know that water naturally makes waves because of the sun for some odd reason the sun seams to power it up and cause it to form waves and also the wind i guess if that help idk thats an odd question

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i thought that waves were from gravitational pull from them moon?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh wait ya i mixed it up lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry lmao

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but ya its pulled from the moon not the sun

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think it has something to do with Thermohaline Circulation, but idk which is why I asked the question..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but im not 100% sure….

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well , its not moves they are waves

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it has to do with global circulation and surface currents, im not sure how exactly

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and they are many reasons for theys waves lets say that waves moves from a place to another so first reason they move from air or wind to water

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ya

OpenStudy (anonymous):

second reason moon effect , moon has light waves that can pull light which cuz water waves

OpenStudy (anonymous):

third reason , heat the sun heat air and water which makes waves

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok, I think that is global circulation, so that is what I am going to put. It was just confusing because of all the references to salinity, density, temperature and whatnot…

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that also make waves :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok great! thank you!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

np :)
