Why do you think Plato placed so much importance on the study of geometry?

OpenStudy (kainui):

Probably because he thought it was fun and interesting. Where does math come from? Do you think people invented it or is it discovered? Maybe he thought math exists in its own dimension separate from ours?

Directrix (directrix):

Go here and read beginning the 5th or 6th paragraph about P's book , The Republic. The answer you seek is there. . http://faculty.kfupm.edu.sa/MATH/irasasi/PlatosView.pdf @Beautykillsszz

Interesting xD he had this plate tied to front gate of his school : "Let no one ignorant of geometry enter here"

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

The ancient Greeks loved their geometry

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lets say , geometry is the first progress in the study of mathematics .

OpenStudy (anonymous):

anyone worked on any simple step in geometry at that time wud consider important

OpenStudy (liamschumm):

Because Geometry is kind of "Beautiful Mathematics", and very elegant proofs can be performed in it. (For example, look up "Cool Pythagorean Theorem Proof")
