Could someone help me with a chart real quick?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Slope l Parallel l Perpendicular 3 l l -5 l l 4/5 l l -1/4 l l -3/2 l l

OpenStudy (alexandervonhumboldt2):

parallel lmes have the same slope peprendicyular have negative reciprocal slopes

OpenStudy (alexandervonhumboldt2):

for first it would be 3, -1/3. can you do the others

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how would the perpendicular be for 3,

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so I could get a hang of it o;

OpenStudy (alexandervonhumboldt2):

-1/3 because it is henegative reciprocal a/b negative reciprocal is -b/a

OpenStudy (anonymous):

would it be -3/1?

OpenStudy (alexandervonhumboldt2):

no because recoprocan of 3 is 1/3. now add - sing -1/3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-3/-1?

OpenStudy (alexandervonhumboldt2):

no

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohmy, sobad at math ;/

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

for the perpendicular...you need negative reciprocal slope. All that means is " flip " the slope and change the sign. As for parallel, the slopes are the same

OpenStudy (alexandervonhumboldt2):

recoprocal of a fraction a/b is b/a. now add - sign

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the perpendicular will be -3?

OpenStudy (alexandervonhumboldt2):

no

OpenStudy (alexandervonhumboldt2):

-1/3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait, its the same thing?

OpenStudy (alexandervonhumboldt2):

for first row answers are parallel 3, perpendiculac -1/3 by the analogy can you do the folowing?

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

example : slope = 3 parallel lines have same slope, so slope is still 3. perpendicular line -- flip the slope and change the sign.....3 is the same as 3/1...flip it, it becomes 1/3, change the sign and it becomes -1/3...your negative reciprocal.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh i got it now

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks to both of you.

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

sure thing :)

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

don't forget, if your slope is -3.....then the negative reciprocal is 1/3....do not forget to change the sign...if it is negative, then it becomes positive.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thanks

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

good luck :) any more questions, just ask
