Giving medals!!! Choose the equation below that represents the line passing through the point (2, -4) with a slope of one half. y = one halfx + 5 y = one halfx - 3 y = one halfx - 5 y = one halfx + 3

OpenStudy (godlovesme):

r u familiar with the poin-slope formula

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (godlovesme):

great y-y1= m(x-x1) can u tell me what y1, x1, and m stand for

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That well, I'm not so sure about!

OpenStudy (godlovesme):

k y1--> ur given y coordinate which is -4 in this case x1 --> x coordinate --> 2 m--> slope -->1/2 confused?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Totally confused, yes

OpenStudy (godlovesme):

the question says the line passes through the point (2,-4) whats our x and y from the given ordered pair ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(2,-4)?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

or 1/2?

OpenStudy (godlovesme):

1/2 is the slope

OpenStudy (godlovesme):

|dw:1419793510861:dw| does that make sense

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes.

OpenStudy (godlovesme):

so whats the y and x coordinate

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I was thinking it's (2,-4). Is it not?

OpenStudy (godlovesme):

thats an ordered pair the x is 2 and the y is -4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh, okay

OpenStudy (godlovesme):

what is the slope

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1/2

OpenStudy (dtan5457):

good emphasis @Godlovesme

OpenStudy (godlovesme):

thanks :) @dtan5457

OpenStudy (godlovesme):

lets use the point-slope form which is y-y1 = m(x-x1) y1 -- ? x1-- ? m--? can u try @FEARLESS_JOCEY :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I never really got how to do this slope formula, so Idk if I could be able to accurately, solve the formula or plug it in.

OpenStudy (dtan5457):

@FEARLESS_JOCEY You can also solve this simply using y=mx+b. As your answers are all in that form. It would be more convenient.

OpenStudy (godlovesme):

its alright :) we are only given one ordered pair so it doesn't matter if it says x1 or x its still the same thing so x1 --> 2 and y1-->-4

OpenStudy (dtan5457):

y=mx+b y=-4 m=1/2 x=2 Solving for b.

OpenStudy (godlovesme):

|dw:1419794297403:dw| can u plug those @FEARLESS_JOCEY
