ou should read "Common Sense" a pamphlet he wrote. In it he attacked the idea of a hereditary monarchy and outlined the economic benefits of independence (eg. Europe could benefit from a free port in America). He also dismissed the chance for reconciliation with England and also put forth the idea of equality of rights among citizens. This pamphlet persuaded patriots that the American Revolution was not only necessary, but a major step in world history.
