i need help, anyone please!! Which sentence contains an infinitive or infinitive phrase? A. Dangling from the branch was a perfect apple. B. This mountain is difficult to climb even for a frequent hiker. C. Yes, the phone had rung once this afternoon. D. Will you send this small package to Uncle Mike?

OpenStudy (geneticrockhopper247):

Welcome to Open Study!!! How to approach this question: An infinitive is the most basic structure of the verb. The infinitive always begins with "to" and then has the verb attached behind it. For example, "to walk" is the most basic for of the verb walk and it is an infinitive phrase. Where this can get tricky: To can also be a preposition. The trick to discerning the difference between its usages is to look at the words that follow "to." If there is an adjective or a noun following "to," then it is a preposition. If there is a verb behind it, then it is an infinitive. Examples: "to the store" ------------->Prepositional Phrase "to drive" -----------------> Infinitive Does this make sense?

OpenStudy (aamirgsen):

B, because it has "to climb even for a frequent hiker" which is the infinitive phrase
