(a) Riley also thought that the surface area would triple. Is Riley correct? How many times greater is the surface area of the larger aquarium than the smaller? Show your work and explain your reasoning.

OpenStudy (utterly_confuzzled):

Okay, so the formula for surface area is 2lw + 2lh + 2wh 16=l 8.5=w 10.5=h This means the original surface area would be 2(16*8.5) + 2(16*10.5) + 2(8.5*10.5) which equals 786.5. Now, Multiply each side by 3 and plug them into the formula just like I did. This will give you the surface area of the second fish tank. After that, take the surface area of the second fish tank and divide it by 786.5. This will give you how many times greater the surface area of the second fish tank is.
