What is the point-slope equation of the line with slope -10 that goes through the point (1, 4)? A. y - 4 = 10(x - 1) B. y + 4 = 10(x + 1) C. y + 4 = -10(x + 1) D. y - 4 = -10(x - 1)

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

\(\large\color{slate}{ y-y_1=m(x-x_1) }\) \(\large\color{slate}{(x_1,y_1) }\) is the point. \(\large\color{slate}{ m }\) is the slope.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so the same thing as the last equation?

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok!

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

and you get? (take your time if needed)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok I don't get it all of them i plugged in and they keep looking like they don't work..

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

plug in the slope which options can you eliminate

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A and B automatically..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok I still don't see what im doing wrong.?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@SolomonZelman

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Both times I plug C and D in they say thier false.

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

it is either C or D, because the slope is -10, not just 10

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

now plug in your point as we did last time

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok,

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't think C works.

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

yes, C is not the ans because it should be y\(\normalsize\color{teal}{ - }\)4 and x\(\normalsize\color{teal}{ - }\)1. so it is therefore D.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you!
