This biome is characterized by it's lack of trees, warm temperatures, and moderate rainfall. What is this biome? Plants need bacteria in order to take up and use which element?

OpenStudy (zale101):

Any ideas or educated guesses of which biome the question is highlighting of?

OpenStudy (zale101):

Here's the list http://www.ucmp.berkeley.edu/glossary/gloss5/biome/

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The answer is a wetland biome?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I need the answer to that second question too

OpenStudy (zale101):

Wetlands have immoderate rainfalls. The question says moderate rainfalls and that's the opposite of wetlands.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh well....idk

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh I got it....isn't it a grassland?

OpenStudy (zale101):

You think desert would fit the definition,?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

um...no. LOL

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think it's a grassland biome...

OpenStudy (zale101):

Grass land could be the answer because it lacks big trees expect small ones.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yaassss lol.....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Can we look at the second question?

OpenStudy (zale101):

Grass lands has average rainfall or moderate while the desert hardly rains. So yes, I would go with grassland.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yay ok thanks! Plants need bacteria in order to take up and use which element?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I didn't really understand that question.... Plants need bacteria in order to take up and use which element?

OpenStudy (zale101):

Bacteria feeds on dead plants and animals. Plants aborbs what from the soil through the roots (where bacteria and plants usually interacts) ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

um...water?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So....that means?

OpenStudy (zale101):

What else, there's an element that both plants and bacteria take advantage of each other. what do they absorb from the soil other than water?.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Dude um....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Carbon?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Wouldn't it be carbon?

OpenStudy (zale101):

H2o is a compound not element. Therefore, water is not the answer. Not carbon, plants use co2 from the atmosphere, not bacteria

OpenStudy (zale101):

Plants absorb nitrogen from the help of bacteria in the soil. Nitrogen fixation is the name of the process.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Omg the question is Plants need bacteria in order to take up and use which element? so...what would it be. The choices are carbon, oxygen, nitrogen, or hydrogen

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Am I supposed to look at that?

OpenStudy (zale101):

The link I provided explains nitrogen fixation in details .

OpenStudy (anonymous):

um...ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think it's oxygen....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What do u think?

OpenStudy (zale101):

Plants don't need to take up oxygen from bacteria. Oxygen process is taken and given off by photosynthesis.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then it's nitrogen?

OpenStudy (zale101):

Yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Plants need bacteria in order to take up and use which element?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

YAY thanks!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Can I ask another question?

OpenStudy (zale101):

You are welcome, water and oxygen are taking by plants, yes, but not from bacteria.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok

How does adaptation explain the patterns of distribution of plant and animal species in the world?
