Relatively easy one but I forgot how to solve; -5(x+4)^2 The exponent is tripping me up

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what do you mean "solve' this is not an equation

OpenStudy (anonymous):

*simplify

OpenStudy (anonymous):

multiply?

OpenStudy (alexandervonhumboldt2):

(a+b)^2=a^2+2ab+b^2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[-5(x+4)(x+4)\] would be the first step

OpenStudy (alexandervonhumboldt2):

-5*(x^2+8x+16)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it is not "solve' because it is not an equation it is not "simplify" because there is not such mathematical operation as "simplify" it means multiply, or write in standard form

OpenStudy (alexandervonhumboldt2):

-5x^2-40x-80

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Man it's 2am and I'm just trying to study for exams. I understand that it's multiply. Sorry I'm a bit tired

OpenStudy (alexandervonhumboldt2):

ok
