What equation is solved by the graphed systems of equations? Two linear equations that intersect at the point 7, 25. 3x + 4 = 5x - 10 3x - 4 = 5x - 10 3x + 4 = 5x + 10 3x - 4 = 5x + 10

i think A!(:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how did you come up with that?

my brother said that is what he think!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I know I just need someone to help me so I can see the steps. I want to learn how he came up with the answer

@confluxepic what r u talking about!?!?

Hey IceFire :) So if we have the point \(\Large\rm (7, 25)\) as our point of intersection, notice that our lines intersect at an x-coordinate of 7. So which equation gives us a value of x=7? How bout the first one? Do you know how to solve for x? 3x + 4 = 5x - 10

OpenStudy (anonymous):

omg what ever i am just trying to help her out! wow

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think I have to use the point slope formula

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I have to get y to one side

zepdrix (zepdrix):

Hmm that sounds like a lot of extra work >.< Just solve each expression they gave you, only one of them will give you x=7 as a solution.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So do I just subtract one of the x's from both sides

zepdrix (zepdrix):

3x + 4 = 5x - 10 Yes, that would be a good first step. Since the 5x is larger, let's subtract 3x from each side.

zepdrix (zepdrix):

It doesn't matter which you subtract, but if you subtract the smaller one (as I suggested), then you don't end up with a negative sign on your x's. Just makes it a little easier to deal with.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

0=2x-14

zepdrix (zepdrix):

3x + 4 = 5x - 10 Well, when you subtracted 3x from each side, you got this, 4 = 2x - 10 yes? I think you would prefer to move the 10 at this point, not the 4. Since it's being subtracted, we do the inverse and add 10 to each side, yah?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

14=2x

zepdrix (zepdrix):

Good good good. The 2 is multiplying the x, so again, do the inverse: divide both sides by 2.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

7=x or x=7

zepdrix (zepdrix):

Ooo yay! So looks like the first option worked out! :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yep :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks for the help I really appreciate it

zepdrix (zepdrix):

The other ones end up giving you x=3 x=-3 x=-7 So yay we found it :) np!

OpenStudy (arabpride):

Please close this post if you're done. Thanks! :D

OpenStudy (confluxepic):

Yeah. @arabpride Considering this is one month old.

OpenStudy (arabpride):

Monkey.. I know <.< I didn't realize >.>
