The graphs of the equations y = x^2 and y = 3 x - 2 intersect in how many points?

OpenStudy (calculusfunctions):

First equate their right sides, then write the equation in the form\[ax ^{2}+bx +c =0\]Next find the value of the discriminant\[D =b ^{2}-4ac\]If D < 0, then there are no real roots and hence there is no intersection of their graphs. If D = 0, then there is one real root and hence their graphs intersect in a single point. If D > 0, then there are two distinct real roots and hence their graphs intersect at two different points.

hmm

I need to think on this. Can you post the answer, and I will look it over once I sleep. I think I'm confused :)

OpenStudy (calculusfunctions):

I'm teaching you but I won't do the work you. What is it that you don't understand?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok, no problem, will do work and come back later :)

540am here XD

OpenStudy (calculusfunctions):

Just follow the steps I gave you. For example, first\[x ^{2}=3x -2\]Next\[x ^{2}-3x +2=0\]Now find the discriminant D and follow the instructions I gave you. FYI it's 5:40 AM here in Toronto where I am as well. Where are you from?

Washington DC

thanks for the advice
