What is the value of A. 512 B. 64 C. 16 D. 8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you have to find out cube root here. what are you not getting? how to split it?

OpenStudy (ganpat):

Hint.. check out the last digit of the numbers after raising their power to 3.. for instance.. 2^3 = 2 * 2 * 2 = 8.. Answer`s last digit will match with last digit of given problem..

OpenStudy (ganpat):

Like 8^3 .. (8 is selected from given options) 8 * 8 * 8 = x4 * 8 = xx2 where, 2 is the last digit.. and in given problem last digit is 6.. so 8 is not the answer..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok but what im not getting is where do you get the 8*8*8 from like what would be the number for my question?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so to start with basic u may split it as 2*something then again and with practice u will get hang of it slowly...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

started with 2 as its an even number.... or u may start with 4 also as 4*4=16 and last digit here is 6..... so u may go with prime factorisation method... u know this method?

OpenStudy (ganpat):

select from options... 8 , 16, 64 and 512

OpenStudy (anonymous):

suppose its 64=2*2*2*2*2*2 ... now u see 2 appears 6 times... so while taking cube root we get 2 .. 2 times... means its 4...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Here as options are given u can go ahead with options also.... starting from least one to make task easier..

OpenStudy (ganpat):

a simpler way to add on vedic`s point.. 64 ^3 = 64 * 64 * 64 multiply last digit of 1st two terms.. 64 * 64 = xx6 ..( as 4 * 4 = 16) now continue.. xx6 * 64 = xxx4 ... ( as 6 * 4 = 24).. again last digit..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so 512

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how u arrived at 512?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it was just a rough estimate

OpenStudy (anonymous):

your rough estimate was totally wrong.... just think if u multiply 512 three time would u get a four digit number???

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohhhhhh so its between 64 and 16

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yup.... but now see 4*4*4=64... so last digit would be 4 if we cube 64.... so now we r left with 16.... as 6*6*6= 216.. so last digit 6... so 16 ..
