How do you solve something like this? (steps please) √−x+2 +4=x answer choices: a) x=2 and x=7 b) x=7 c) x=2 d) no solution

OpenStudy (phi):

which part is inside the square root ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-x+2

OpenStudy (phi):

I would "move" the 4 to the other side so only the square root stuff is on the left i.e. add -4 to both sides.

OpenStudy (phi):

then square both sides. this gets rid of the square root, but makes the right side more complicated

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ummm so would I end up with no solution

OpenStudy (phi):

or you can test each of the choices they give you.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It's only practice and they said the answer is no solution I was just curious as how you would solve it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oooh ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can you help me with another @butterflydreamer ? √2x+3=x x=3 and x=−1 x=3 x=−1 No Solution

OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):

@gypsy1234 you're only allowed to ask one question in one post but :P i will help you this time xD Okay try to work it out similarly to what i did above! First step is to square both sides.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok thanks, hold on

OpenStudy (anonymous):

when you square 2 do you get 2x?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

square x*

OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):

hmm.. not quite.
