The parent function of the following graph is f(x) = 2x. What is the equation of the graph?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

y = 2x+1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ya thats not right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

IT NOT

OpenStudy (anonymous):

y=2x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

u can control it with geo gebra software or manually. Make a list with value of x -5 -4 -3.......2...5 then u have (x,y) this here. then u can do the point on the graph and last a line through the points. In few words |dw:1421171820668:dw|

OpenStudy (misty1212):

Hi!!

OpenStudy (misty1212):

i bet it was supposed to be \(y=2^x\) only shifted up two units

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ya! haha sorry

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

if the parent function is \[f(x) = 2^x\] then when x = 0 the y-intercept is y = 1 the graph shows the parent function has moved up 2 units... which could mean a shift left so use this site to explore what the equation could be https://www.desmos.com/calculator

OpenStudy (misty1212):

oh not was i said was not right

OpenStudy (misty1212):

if it was shifted up by two units as \[y=2^x+2\] then it would pass through the point \((-1,2.5)\) and it does not

OpenStudy (misty1212):

maybe it is \[y=2^{x+1}+1\] which would shift it left one unit and up one unit try that one

OpenStudy (misty1212):

nope not that either hmmm

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2^x
