@OrthodoxMan

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you know factoring in algebraic expressions?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no i started a new school and this is all dude tofay when i got go school she a jerk i tol her i dont know any this stuff yet still make me do it and gradeing me on it :(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I can give you a crash course But you have to pay attention :) If you're confused Just ask me, im here

OpenStudy (anonymous):

This won't take too long

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

Factoring in math simply means to break an expression into smaller expressions so it can be simplified. Factoring can be done in many ways. You can break up numbers, variables or both. This question requires you to factor both. To factor a number you would need to find the common denominator. Say 2x + 2. You can factor out the 2 to get 2(x+1) To factor a variable, you would need to look at the degree of the variable(s) present. You need to factor out the smallest degree of the variable so you can simplify. Say x^3 + x^2 +x. x can be factored out to get x(x^2+x+1). Notice how you can multiply the number/variable on the outside of the brackets with everything inside to get exactly what you started with?

Does anything confuse you?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah very

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Tell me what you don't get I explained factoring numbers and factoring variables. You don't get both?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

my quess is c?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm explaining the concept We'll get to your question later i need you to understand

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So back to concept, do you understand simple factoring?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i dont get none

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If i give you 2x + 4 What can you take out so you can multiply back in again?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So by taking out x you would get x(2 + 4) = 6x That is not the same as 2x+4 Think numbers What is the Least Common Denominator for 2 and 4?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Other than 1?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2 works.... If i take out 2 you get 2(x+2) multiply 2 and x+2 you get 2x + 4 It works

OpenStudy (anonymous):

We have to try one more before we can do variables

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3x + 6 common denominator? And show me what can you factor
