The two angles 4y-8 and 79+y are vertical angles because they share the same angle vertex (that sharp point of the angle) R. You can usually tell that two angles are vertical angles because they are directly opposite each other (as they are in the picture you provided). Vertical angles are equal, so we can write this to relate the two angles: \[4y-8 = 79+y\] Now just solve for y.
