"Placed on this isthmus of a middle state,/A being darkly wise and rudely great,/ With too much knowledge for the skeptic side,/ with too much for the stoic's pride...." These lines from Popes An essay on Man represent human beings as________? A. fearful B. befuddled C. animalistic D. ingnorant
If you were stuck in the middle, and knew too much to be skeptical or be painfully prideful, what would you be?
@KkMc Can you help a little more? If the guy is too wise to be sceptical, he isn't ignorant, so it cannot be D. What does it mean that he has too little for the stoic's pride? I'd say he was befuddled, meaning that he cannot think clearly, because he is stuck in the middle between the skeptic and the stoic position. I am not giving the answer away, as I am not sure. But can anybody confirm, that I am on the right track with this?
