Can anyone explain how to get at least the first box?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Lets find equivalent resistance of the circuit: Here R1 is parallel to R2 and they are in series with R3: \[R_{12}=\frac{R_1R_2}{R_1+R_2}=81.7Ohms\] \[Req=R_{12}+R_3=551.7Ohms\] Now we can find current on \[R_3\], that is \[I_3=\frac{V}{Req}=\frac{12V}{551.7}=0.022A\] \[V_3=I_3R_3=0.022*470=10.22V\] Voltage is split in series, so voltage on R1 and R2 are equal \[V_1=V_2=V-V_3=12-10.22=1.78V\] Now you can find current on R1 and R2, from V2/R2 and V1/R1
