The city is planning to add a jogging track to a neighborhood park. The figure below is a scale drawing of the jogging track. It's scale is 1/2 inch=15 feet. The height of this scale drawing is 2.5 in. and the width is 1 inch. What is the area inside the actual jogging track? Use 22/7 for pie. (Part B): How long is the jogging track? Use 3.14 for pie.

Picture.

@jigglypuff314 please help my friend with this question

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

the straight side of the track = 2.5in in the picture to convert it to ft 2.5 * (15/0.5) = 75 so that side of the actual track is 75 feet same thing with the 1inch part 1 * (15/0.5) = 30 so you have a 75 by 30ft rectangle in the middle so you see where I'm getting these numbers? :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

YEP she knows

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol i told her to ask this question for me. thts y she left

OpenStudy (anonymous):

please keep explaining @jigglypuff314

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh sorry. Yes I realize that part. I'm just a bit confused as to where pi comes in to the problem.

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

2 half circles = 1 whole circle the 1inch thing is the circle's diameter radius = 1/2 diameter = 0.5 inch 0.5 * (15/0.5) = 15 so radius of the circle is 15 ft area of rectangle = (length) * (width) and area of circle = (3.14) * (radius) * (radius)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what do we do after that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

we just add both answers?

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

mhmm

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you so much! ^.^ ur da best

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

how long is 75 + 30ft

OpenStudy (anonymous):

105 ft.

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

yeah that 105 is for part b

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh! Yeah I get it. Thank you!

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

glad I could help :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but we were supposed to use pi for part b

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@jigglypuff314

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@jigglypuff314 i got 2250.79 for part a fr prt b i dunno how to finish it

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

ohhhh I just realized what part b was asking ummm the 75 + 75 for the straight line part and circumference = (diameter) * (3.14) = (30ft) * (3.14)

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

and for part A I got something different try (75 * 30) + (3.14 * 15 * 15) = part A (75 + 75) + (3.14 * 30) = part B

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got 506,956.5 fr part a and 4594.2 fr part b

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

omg try again

OpenStudy (anonymous):

kk haha calculator wrong

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got 2956.5 fr part a and 5719.2 fr part b :)

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

A is correct now try part b again

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh shoot i mutiplied instead of added for b

OpenStudy (anonymous):

244.2

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

good

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thats it right?

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

it's what I got

OpenStudy (anonymous):

than you so much
