On a cold winter morning, a person waiting for the bus starts shivering. The muscles used in shivering produce extra heat that helps warm the body. Shivering to warm up illustrates which characteristic of life? A. getting energy B. homeostasis C. growth D. adaptation to environment

OpenStudy (barreraa):

Shivering to warm up illustrates homeostasis. It is the property of a system that regulates its internal environment and tends to maintain a stable, relative.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ah ok :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Which phrase describes the study of ecology? A. the transfer of light energy B. comparing biotic and abiotic habitats C. the two-way relationship between a living thing and its environment D. organisms that grow and adapt to their environment

OpenStudy (barreraa):

what do u think

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hmm maybe D but im not sure

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ecology is the study of the relations between a living thing to one another and their environment.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

:D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait what so is it D or C??????

OpenStudy (barreraa):

its C

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well to me C makes more sense.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok :) i have some more questions so one sec :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sure.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What does a diagram of a food chain show? A. interconnected pathways of energy flow in a community B. the flow of energy from a producer to a consumer C. feeding relationships of all organisms in an ecosystem D. the sun's energy cycle

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What do you think it is?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think it might be C but idk

OpenStudy (anonymous):

An example of a food chain would be A plant is a producer > an insect eats the plant > a mouse eats the insect > a bird eats the mouse.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so B????

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well I am pretty sure that C would be a best fit, a food chain is more just showing how they relate to each other with feeding, although within a food chain I believe there is something called the 'calorific flow'/energy flow which is the energy.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Which is an example of an external response to stimuli? A. a rabbit running from a predator that is chasing it B. getting water to drink to quench the body's thirst C. a rabbit sensing a predator is approaching D. the body recognizing it is constantly feeling thirsty

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Which choices can we eliminate simply on they aren't external?

OpenStudy (barreraa):

A stimulus is something that triggers a response. An example of external stimulus is a ball hitting your face. The ball triggers a response in your body, causing you to react. An example of internal stimulus is hormone. Hormones such as testosterone triggers a response in various parts of your body internally. External: When pea plants feel a solid object, they twist and bend to support themselves around it. Easier way of saying: thirst and hunger are internal and something hitting you is external.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Exactly what he's getting at, with that we can eliminate B and D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh wait

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Just re-read the question, it states which of the following is an external RESPONSE to a stimuli

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@barreraA If I am understanding it right this is saying that you getting water is an external response to a stimuli so B yes?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Which could be in the fourth trophic level of a food chain? A. bluebird B. rabbit C. grass D. earthworm

OpenStudy (barreraa):

what do u think

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What places are likely to support a large consumer population? A. areas that have a large number of producers B. areas that have many scavengers and decomposers C. environments that have distinct warm and cold seasons D. regions that receive abundant sunlight

OpenStudy (barreraa):

what do u think

OpenStudy (barreraa):

@Kayla369

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Which population increases the amount of soil nutrients available to plants? A. a fox that buries its meal B. bacteria that help decompose a dead animal C. a bean plant that grows toward the sunlight D. hummingbirds that pollinate flowers as they feed

OpenStudy (barreraa):

what do u think about this one

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hmm B

OpenStudy (anonymous):

In which type of ecological relationship does each participant benefit the other organism? A. mutualism B. commensalism C. symbiosis D. competition

OpenStudy (barreraa):

yes b is correct for the one before

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A dog has been biting at the fleas that are biting it. These fleas suck the blood from the dog and can cause it to become anemic and sickly. Which term describes the relationship between the dog and the flea? A. competition B. mutualism C. commensalism D. parasitism

OpenStudy (barreraa):

what do u think it is

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Which organism is the carnivore in this food web? A. marine phytoplankton B. zooplankton C. krill D. Adélie penguin

OpenStudy (anonymous):

D.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

:D ty

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Which term best describes the relationship between the leopard seals and crabeater seals? A. competition B. predation C. parasitism D. mutualism

OpenStudy (barreraa):

no direct answers @k12andstudyislandhelp please its against code of conduct http://openstudy.com/code-of-conduct

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ik, @barreraA i just did the question, and i was like, i know this answer. So i answered it. I dont usually do that.

OpenStudy (barreraa):

just dont do it again

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i wont

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Which term best describes the relationship between the spider and the grasshopper? A series of images using arrows to show relationships between species. An arrow points from the mountain lion to the flea. A. competition B. predation C. mutualism D. parasitism

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Which statement describes how predation and parasitism are different? A. One organism is harmed in predation while the other is benefits, but neither is harmed in parasitism. B. In predation the predator usually does not kill its prey, whereas in parasitism the parasite usually kills its host. C. In predation the predator usually kills its prey, whereas in parasitism the parasite does not usually kill its host. D. All organisms in predator-prey relationships and parasite-host relationships benefit, but they don't always kill the prey.

OpenStudy (barreraa):

what do u think the answer is

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think this is the one.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What happened to the predators in the mid 1950s in response to the decreased prey population? Missing Metadata A. The predator population maintained its population level. B. The predator population decreased and then increased. C. The predator population sharply decreased. D. The predator population sharply increased.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what do you think?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hmm idk

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well, from the graph you can see that the predator population grew after the prey decreased.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Which factors would explain this pattern among predator and prey populations in this area? Choose all answers that are correct. Missing Metadata A. As the amount of food (prey) is depleted, the predator population will decrease. B. The greater amount of food (prey) available will support a larger predator population. C. The greater amount of food (prey) available will support a smaller predator population. D. As the amount of food (prey) is depleted, the predator population will increase.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i did this one, i dont know if i got this right or not. but what do you think?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

As the amount of food (prey) is depleted, the predator population will decrease. The greater amount of food (prey) available will support a larger predator population. Here, are the answers that are correct

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I just finished my assesment

OpenStudy (anonymous):

:D Ty

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i have 1 more

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Why is a food chain a more limited representation of the flow of energy through an ecosystem than a food web? A. A food chain has limitations with the organisms involved. B. A food chain shows only a single pathway of energy. C. A food chain shows all the organisms. D. A food chain shows multiple pathways of energy.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

D.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What do you think?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

:D Ty :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

o.O i didnt master it :(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i didnt either, thats why i gave you the answers i got. (that were right)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i can only do the test 1 more time

OpenStudy (anonymous):

because i reviewed it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh. that was the first time i did it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

o.O ok can u just help me out with the right answers o.o pls

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i did.
