what exactly is os feedback for? and what's up with the lags
Hi, OpenStudy feedback is for anything involving, something that may concern OpenStudy, suggestions, compliments, constructive criticism, and general questions regarding OpenStudy, its affiliations, and community. Basically, if you have any questions or concerns about OpenStudy; ask here. OpenStudy has also been green-lighted for congratulatory threads regarding the community; such as Happy Birthday threads and recognition (e.g., congrats to Sammy for reaching 99!) The lag is due to stress on the servers. OpenStudy is looking into the issue.
Come one @Compassionate He didn't even tryb and he got 10 medals like it was a walk in the park. #Skillz

It'll touch twenty very soon. The medals are always attracted to Comp.
I have over 1,500 medals in feedback and I don't even know why
Maybe it's because of your witty comments.
its for feedback pertaining the subject of openstudy, I.E. Giving ideas/Siggestions To Improve Openstudy
Maybe it's because people just like me in general and they see my long posts but don't read them so they're just like, "hey, he probably answered it idk his post is lengthy not gonna read it but i like him." so they just medal me.
The Lag is caused by the server having 1. Old Equipment And Much Traffic 2. Poor Layering 3. Template Delay Between The Client and The Server Causing Packet Loss.
Most Lag is caused by outdated equipment and template programming
As far as I know, OpenStudy uses Amazon EC2 Servers and the lag is simply caused by traffic and poor connection to the host.
Traffic only causes a low level delay, the template is layered poorly oftenly theres 50 lines of codes when only 5 is needed... its all sepperate instead of together, the template is the cause of 99.3% of os gltiches ESPECIALLY orange war.
After a long time... ive finally diagnosed the cause of orange war... been meaning to post it.
need to get the dev team to fix it... orange war has causes... but the reason its still there is (spoilers) :P
The something to do with a boat the can someone tell me what the proffesor is hitting... all template errors
99.3% is surely an interesting statistic you have there. The Orange War was caused by something different. There is no "one cause" for the Orange War. There are actually several factors. I've discussed this with previous developers. @e.mccormick also brought up some interesting information on the Orange War. The templates, like I said, struggle to be over 100kb. It's not them. Lag isnt' caused by compatibility issues or templates, either. Site lag in general is simply stress on the servers. For example, you ping a request, and it has to go through delayed relays before the request is accepted; sometimes your requests even time out.
no those are sub causes that just bring it out, the way its loaded is in error becuase of that, but the template is the reason why it loads in error... i can actually explain why :P
You mean stuff like Something to do with a Sailboat, I Walruss blubber (blabber)?, Sprauger! Stuff like that? Those are simply templates. Every site has them. Just happens that OpenStudy has a quirky sense of humor about it. Those things do nothing to slow OpenStudy as a whole.
no, they dont... i was just pointing out thats also why its coming out :P
Templates don't cause errors in loading? A website needs an HTML Template to function. Every site has them. Unless your template is poorly encoded, then, yes.
The templates show up because you pinged an delayed request and the server timed out.
and this one is... its actually the way its layered...
I gotta get back to work. I'll talk with you guys later.
Um, the most recent orange war things happen when one of the two primary services that connect to the back end has crashed. It auto reboots now, but sometimes a manual reboot is needed. The older ones were caused by an assortment of other things.
Oh, and it is no longer on EC2. It is on VPC. They change the number of instances based on time of day and load.
ive ntoiced... theres invisible unnecesary layers, such as the orange, is behind the ss... however its part of the same layer for your color, and is simply disabled... because it cant load... orange (because its the same layer) shows instead
instead, why wouldnt ss data be on perhaps its own server so it loads instantly.
*so confused*
I doubt it is 100% unnecessary. A placeholder actually serves a purpose for allowing a designer to work on a layout that is not part of the active system. Anyhow, they are making slow changes and redesigns to the existing pages. Their goal being to keep the look and feel the same while cleaning up some things. At the same time, they are doing more work on the back end to make the server side cleaner and more bug free. The goal being to lessen the number of times that the services crash.
The SS data is part of the database. It is not more efficent to make more databases.
this is true, but if one database is clogged then it would be... ._. all depends.
all depends on the conditions.
if one is clogging the other then both suffer from it
but i do have a question that has been bugging me...
If your idea is that the one being clogged would be the main so the others would not... it is flawed. See, then the connector from the SS geneeration in the main to the SS in the ssdb would also be clogged so you would still not get the SS on top of adding the overhead of another datbase running.
why are there 3 different types of the same site... openstudy.com inquus.org math.openstudy.com help.openstudy.com
huh... well... that is true ._.
inquus.org was the original when they did the first development and did not have a name. It is the corporate site. openstudy.com is the later site. As for the lest, learn about domain name heirarchies and how they are useful.
domain names... still have a lot to learn about those... math.openstudy.com is virtually lag free
Some of them are test servers, some of them are the same server but might get you to a different instance.
Generally, the test servers won't let you do posts.
@Jaynator495 There are more sub websites ._.
I google a question and each link has a different one like widget.openstudy.com lol
BWAHAHAHAHAHAH wont let you do posts... i pretty much use help. math. and inquus for openstudy 24/7 when this sites messing up XD brb dinner arived ._.
oh... theres... others... **goes to look for more in embarasment*
If it is one of the test servers it does not have a two way link to the database. They had me use some of those before to view changes. Most of them are not that.
huh ._.
i need to look for more of them... xD
