Question down below

OpenStudy (anonymous):

To combine the fractions, you want to find a common denominator. Can you think what it could be?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Once you've made the denominators the same, it's simply a case of adding the numerators

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm thinking x or y @tom982

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Not quite, we want xy on the bottom because we can turn the x into xy by multiplying by y, and y into xy by multiplying by x. If you want to find a common denominator, you can always just multiply the two, though it isn't always going to be the simplest form - it's still correct though :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So we want to change each fraction so that it's something divided by xy, \[\frac{?}{xy} = \frac{3}{x} \]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What do we put in place of the question mark?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I have no idea im so confused at this point @tom982

Okay no worries.|dw:1424923104166:dw|
