What is the mean of Variable A? http://static.k12.com/calms_media/media/1549000_1549500/1549020/1/ccd22028f314df1a1d19dd0d566c910bd139c026/MS_IMC-141015-108153.jpg

OpenStudy (phi):

you have 10 numbers (dots) 2 of the dots have an "A" value of 1 2 have a value of 2 1 has a value of 3 that is: 1,1,2,2,3, and so on list out the values (should be 10 of them) add them up and divide by 10 to get the average (the mean)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its still confusing @phi

OpenStudy (phi):

on the axis labeled "A", do you see the number "4" ? how many dots are plotted above the 4 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1

OpenStudy (phi):

that means we have 1 A with the value 4 and our list (so far) is 1,1,2,2,3,4 how many 5's do we have ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1

OpenStudy (phi):

if you look at the 5 (on the A axis), and look up along that line, there are no dots.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohh

OpenStudy (phi):

so no A has 5 as a value. but you do have one 6, one 7, one 8, and one 10. the entire list is 1,1,2,2,3,4,6,7,8,10 now find the average of that list (add up and divide by how many numbers there are)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4.4?

OpenStudy (phi):

? did you add wrong ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

maybe let me recheck

OpenStudy (phi):

no, that's correct 44/10 = 4.4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i added right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok lol
