A vehicle travels a distance of 5t4 − 10t2 + 6 miles in t + 2 minutes. the vehicles speed is..?

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

speed = distance/time

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

so you need to some synthetic or polynomial division... or simply write it as a fraction

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol they really reach for these word problems don't they?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

speed is distance divided by rate, so \[\frac{5t^4-10t^2+6}{t+2}\] there is some chance the numerator factors and you can reduce by cancellation

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok scratch that, the numerator does not factor, so unless there is a typo, that is all you can do

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

@satellite73 wrote above "speed is distance divided by rate, so " Proof that even math geniuses can mistype.
