Grammar help- two quick questions for medal! 1. The cat ____ (drank, drunk) all of its milk. 2. Which part of speech is honesty?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

CORRECTION! On number 1, it's "The cat has___ (drank, drunk) all of its milk." i forgot Has

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@sammixboo

sammixboo (sammixboo):

Read the sentence with 'drank' then with 'drunk' Which one makes the most sense? If that doesn't help, let me know

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So, it's drank?

sammixboo (sammixboo):

Not quite. Try saying it outloud again

sammixboo (sammixboo):

It's quite confusing actually. I have no idea the proper way to say it. In different areas, people may say it differently

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah, this is one of the few things about grammar that confuses me. I'm actually one of the best in my class when it comes to this, but I forgot everything I learned in sixth grade, and now, in 8th grade, they're not teaching us what to do anymore but just jumping back in after two years of basically no grammar.

sammixboo (sammixboo):

Exactly, haha

sammixboo (sammixboo):

See I would say drunk, but my friend said drank

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Drunk was my best guess, but for some reason drank sounded better to me. Thank you so much for clarifying! But what about the second question? do you have an answer for that

sammixboo (sammixboo):

Oh, pfft. I didn't even know there was a second question. Give me a sec

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It's an adjective, right? or is it something else that I completely forgot?

sammixboo (sammixboo):

Well, you know the different part of speeches, right?

sammixboo (sammixboo):

Not quite

sammixboo (sammixboo):

We have a verb, noun, adjective, etc.

sammixboo (sammixboo):

Think of honesty. Is it a person? Thing? Place?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hmm... not sure.

sammixboo (sammixboo):

It's a thing :) THat can give ya a hint

OpenStudy (anonymous):

noun?

sammixboo (sammixboo):

Right! It's easily confused with others, but it is a noun

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that's weird. i thought it was a descriptive word, but i did have a little suspicion.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well, thank you so much! you really helped!

sammixboo (sammixboo):

No problem!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Whenever you see the verb "have " in any of its forms (have, has, having, had), be sure that the verb that follows it is in the past participle form

sammixboo (sammixboo):

Drunk is the past participle of drink Drank is the past version of drink

sammixboo (sammixboo):

So that outta help with your 1st question

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ah, yes! I KNEW it had something to do with the word had!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes @sammixboo !

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes, thanks, both of you! Later!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no problem @TheMetalHead :)
